Jewelry Care Guide

Fine jewelry is made to last generations. With the right care, your House of Elhanati piece will preserve its texture, brilliance and character over time.

We work primarily in solid 18K gold and carefully selected precious and semi-precious gemstones. Each material carries its own qualities and requires specific care.

Below you will find detailed guidance for maintaining your jewelry..

GOLD & PRECIOUS METALS

18K GOLD
18K gold consists of 75% pure gold combined with copper and silver alloys. This balance preserves the richness of gold while ensuring durability for everyday wear.

How to care for 18K gold
Clean your jewelry approximately once a month using lukewarm water and mild soap. Gently brush with a soft toothbrush to remove buildup from skin and oils. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
If heavily tarnished, professional ultrasonic cleaning is recommended. Resizing or adjustments should always be handled by a professional goldsmith.

14K WHITE GOLD
14K white gold contains approximately 58% pure gold and is alloyed with other metals to create strength. All ELHANATI white gold pieces are rhodium plated for their bright finish.

How to care for 14K white gold
Clean using the same method as 18K gold. Over time, rhodium plating may wear and reveal a warmer tone beneath. Re-plating restores the original surface and can be arranged through our atelier.

24K GOLD PLATING
Gold-plated pieces consist of a thin layer of 24K gold applied over a base metal, often silver.

How to care for gold-plated jewelry
Clean gently using lukewarm water and a soft cloth. Avoid friction and store separately to protect the plating. With time, re-plating may be required to restore the original finish.

STERLING SILVER
Sterling silver contains 92.5% pure silver combined with strengthening alloys.

How to care for sterling silver
Store silver in an airtight environment to slow oxidation. Regular wear naturally reduces tarnishing through friction. If heavily oxidized, professional polishing is recommended.

PRECISOUS & SEMI-PRECISOUS STONES

DIAMONDS

Natural diamonds are composed of pure carbon formed under extreme heat and pressure deep beneath the earth’s surface. Their hardness makes them ideal for heirloom jewelry.
How to care for diamond jewelry
Clean monthly with mild soap and warm water using a soft brush. Store separately to prevent diamond-against-diamond abrasion. Prolonged saltwater exposure should be avoided.
If a stone becomes loose, contact our atelier for repair.

EMERALD
Emerald is a beryllium aluminium silicate with natural inclusions that give it depth and character.
How to care for emerald
Clean gently with lukewarm water and a soft brush. Avoid soaking and never use ultrasonic cleaning. Emerald is a delicate stone and should be protected from impact.

SAPPHIRE
Clean with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Dry with a lint-free cloth. If a stone loosens due to wear, professional repair is advised.

OPAL
Opals contain water within their structure and require careful handling. Wipe with a damp soft cloth and mild detergent. Never soak or use ultrasonic cleaning. Avoid impact.

TIGER EYE
Clean by gently rubbing with a soft cloth. If necessary, rinse briefly under lukewarm water and dry thoroughly. Deep scratches may require stone replacement.

BLACK SPINEL
Clean using mild soap and water with a soft cloth or toothbrush. Avoid chlorine exposure. Store separately to prevent scratching.

JADE
Clean with mild soap and water using a soft cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaning and chlorine exposure. Dry thoroughly after washing.

JASPER
Do not soak. Clean using a damp, lint-free cloth only.

BROWN CORAL
Coral is an organic gemstone composed of calcium carbonate. Avoid soaking or harsh cleaning solutions. Clean gently with a damp cloth.

BRAIDED & BEADED
Beaded string pieces should be cleaned using a damp lint-free cloth and dried thoroughly. Macramé strings are durable but should be replaced every 1–3 years depending on use.
